10/2021: The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was revealed! America will finally have a production Supercar of its own! The Z06’s engine will produce 670 horsepower making it the world’s highest horsepower naturally aspirated V8 in production! As expected it will have a flat-plane engine, but the surprise is that it will rev to 8600 rpms! This is a huge step for GM! A redline this high is usually a staple in four cylinder sport compacts, but the Z06 will pack a lot more torque! With optional packages, most likely the Z07 package, the car will accelerate from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds! Pricing is yet to be announced, but buyers will be able to line up in November to place their deposit on this amazing piece of American machinery. 8/2021: The Tesla Model S Plaid is a game changer. The car runs 9 second 1/4 miles stock! This is ridiculous! It will be interesting how other car manufacturers keep up with it. Yes, you can build a 9 second car less than $130,000 but it will be extremely hard to carry four adults, luggage, and drive it over 300 miles before needing to stop to “refuel.” The other thing is it does not matter what elevation you are at – the times will be almost identical.
7/2021: The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will produce more than 600 horsepower with a naturally aspirated flat-plane crank V-8. Pricing is expected to start around $87,000. This should power it to 10 second 1/4 mile times which will be interesting to see how much faster it will be than the C7 Z06. The 2020 Corvette Z51 already has impressed many enthusiasts and reviewers so Chevy promises to deliver a more track focused experience with the Z06. Car and Driver’s latest article can be found here. Chevrolet released the following teaser of the Z06 which states the new model will be revealed in the fall.
6/2021: The 2022 Toyota 86 will arrive with more horsepower and torque from a larger 2.4-liter engine but, it still will not be turbocharged or supercharged. It will have 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque to eliminate the dreaded mid range torque dip. It is also now part of Toyota’s GR brand, and most importantly to drivers – it still comes with 6 speed manual. It appears Toyota is making their buyers wanting more power to step up to the base model Supra’s 2.0-liter turbo model. Pricing for the 86 will start in the low $30,000 range. The latest details can be found on Car and Driver’s page here. Toyota’s official review video is showcased below.
